Intuitive 3D Imaging: New user experience for surgeons

Background: The 3D imaging service transforms patients’ CT scans and MRI files into digital 3D anatomical models with color coding that can be manipulated and referenced during surgery.

Problem: Not all surgeons have a sales representative to show them how to use the features of models in this app as they get started using it, so we needed to consider how surgeons approach using the app on their own.

Approach: Worked directly with product designers to create help layers that surgeons see when viewing a 3D model for the first time. For each feature tip, I led with strong action verbs so the surgeon could picture themselves using the different features to manipulate their model.

Impact: Testing showed that surgeons felt confident manipulating the models after reviewing the tips.
