Rebrand and engineering: High profile user security features

Problem: The existing product that enabled security for high profile users like celebrities and politicians was called Facebook Protect, but that name couldn't scale across Meta's app family in a world with Meta Accounts—at least, not without a rebrand. The program had been siloed to one product, with fragmented terminology and overlapping needs across Meta Verified, impending Meta Account scalability, and Election protections.

Approach: As the content designer on this project, I led the end-to-end rebrand identifying cross-product overlaps, conducted competitive analysis, facilitated consensus across multiple workstreams (Meta Verified, Meta Accounts, Elections Ops), and personally updated 200+ content strings in code using internal content engineering tools—releasing engineering as a bottleneck.

Solution: I enabled the launch of a scalable Advanced Protection program that works across the family of apps. Enabled unified terminology (Facebook Protect to Advanced Protection) by updating terminology directly in code, adjusting for quality as needed. Allowed the Advanced Protection program to launch to Instagram after deprecating Facebook Protect.

Impact: 1 million+ users are now eligible for protections. I enabled the eligibility of more than 1,000+ high profile Instagram accounts to enroll in Advanced Protection by May 2024. My work freed severely constrained engineering time to focus on their other top priorities. Quote from the lead engineer on the project: "Lauren’s effort was the difference between delivering on time with high quality or not."
